FUTSAL TOOWOOMBA HISTORY
(September 2010 – Present day)

FUTSAL Toowoomba is a FUTSAL Club run under the auspices of Football Toowoomba. Formed in 2010, the Club commenced operations as a going concern to allow FUTSAL players to be involved in the FIFA Futsal pathway. The courage of the inaugural committee to start this Club has clearly provided opportunities that will be enjoyed by their members for generations to come.

Season 1 saw 138 players operate over a 12 week season out of Harristown High School. Remarkably, this provided the opportunity for 10 players to go the FFA National Futsal Titles in Canberra.

History will show that the following players became the very first from Toowoomba to be recognised by Football Queensland as State FUTSAL players.

SEASON 2
(Toowoomba expands beyond expectations)

Following the exploits of players at Nationals, a new vigour was found by the FUTSAL Family.   An expanded committee was formed and the first FUTSAL Chairman, Paul Mason, took the reigns providing new leadership for the game.

The most significant development saw FUTSAL Toowoomba, secure the brand new Downlands College indoor Centre as the show piece venue for the FUTSAL Code.

FUTSAL Toowoomba also secured Funds from the Gambling Communities Benefit fund and the FFA Club Grants Program to purchase FUTSAL goals; these goals have been loaned to the Schools community to encourage children to play the game in school hours.

A new website was established which brought the information superhighway to the game. The website became the key medium for information exchanges and general inquiries.

Season 2 saw the Club introduce a media campaign to improve the affiliation numbers of the Club. Volunteers such as Claudia Posada, Steve Donald, Sue Watts, Samantha Douglas, Sharon Ballard, Lue Petersen and Nigel Fanning and numerous others working tirelessly handing out flyers, conducting sign on days and spreading the word to get the FUTSAL Club to the next level.

When season 2 commenced, 67 teams had registered with age groups from U8-Open Men’s and women’s. Competitions were run out of Downlands, Toowoomba Grammar and Harristown High School. All across town, people were talking about FUTSAL because our 450 players were in an exciting new competition at great venues across town.

Another huge development for FUTSAL Toowoomba saw representative teams entering into the Queensland Summer FUTSAL league operating out of venues in South East Queensland.   6 Regional Teams travelled over 6 weekends to various locations to compete in this prestigious event. Whilst no team became champions of their age groups, many took the position of runner up and all teams accounted themselves very well.

Season 2 also saw the introduction of the First Finals Series which culminated in a Gala Day at Downlands for all FUTSAL Finalists.   A huge thank you is extended to the Volunteers and Referee’s for making the Finals a memorable occasion. The Finalist for Season 2 are listed below.
